Sports Massage Cardiff

Sports massage encompasses a variety of techniques to create changes in the soft tissues of the body - such as skin, fascia, muscle, tendons and ligaments. Massage can improve general well being by reducing pain and stress through increasing local blood flow to an injured area of the body facilitating healing.

Cardiff Sports Massage is the discipline of using massage for the specific benefit of all sports and exercise participants. Whether you exercise to keep fit or compete at elite level, sports massage can be affective in the prevention of injury, improvement of performance and the reduction of post activity muscle soreness.

Pilates & Yoga

Pilates is a body conditioning method that targets the deep postural muscles. It works by building strength from the inside out, rebalancing the body, helping to maintain correct alignment. Pilates helps to reshape your body, which will become longer, leaner and more toned. It will also improve your posture, achieving the perfect balance between strength and flexibility, and it is a great way to relieve unwanted stress and tension.

Health & Sports Physiotherapy works closely with partners associated with our Cardiff and Cowbridge clinics, to offer Pilates as a complimentary method of rehabilitation. Pilates is taught in small groups of no more than 12 people, or in 1 to 1 studio sessions. The environment is supportive and non competitive and students are encouraged to develop at their own pace.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture originated in the Far East over 2,500 years ago, and is most commonly associated with Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Acupuncture is the technique of inserting and manipulating fine needles into specific points on the body, with the aim of relieving pain.
These acupuncture point’s lie along meridians along which Qi, the bodies’ natural energy is believed to flow. Acupuncture works through correcting the bodies’ imbalances in Qi, which can cause physical discomfort and emotional distress. Acupuncture also stimulates the production of the bodies’ natural pain relieving hormones (i.e serotonin and endorphins), reducing stress and pain levels alike.

What should you expect?

Patients can expect to feel a sensation of warmth and heaviness in the area being treated. This is described as ‘Dequi’, the facilitation of the bodies’ natural energy flow. Following treatment patients often feel very relaxed.
Acupuncture is used by Physiotherapists in our Cardiff and Newbridge clinics, against a background of sound research and evidence. All our practitioners are registered with the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists, guaranteeing high quality treatment.
